Why We Love Simple Tahini Sauce

Let’s talk tahini! If you enjoy Middle Eastern and Mediterranean food, chances are you’re already familiar – and deeply in love – with classic Tahini sauce. It’s luscious without being too rich, bright but rustic, and adds a fabulous depth of flavor to practically any and all savory dishes.

The thick, creamy sauce is made of tahini sesame seed paste, lemon juice, herbs, and spices. Individually, these wholesome ingredients are pretty simple… But whisk them up together, and wow, they create a silky dressing that is nutty, citrusy, and tangy with just the right amount of umami.

This healthy, low carb, gluten free, and vegan sauce can be used on all sorts of things… Drizzle it over grilled or roasted vegetables, use it as a dipping sauce or sandwich spread on sandwiches, or even spoon it as a base on flatbed breads and pizzas. Give our easy tahini sauce recipe a try, and I’m sure you’ll keep a jar in the fridge at all times, along with your other favorite sauces and dressings!

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between tahini and hummus?

Both are popular in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisines, but these smooth and creamy dips are totally different. Hummus is made with pureed chickpeas (AKA garbanzo beans) and is therefore a bean dip, but it does usually have a bit of tahini in it. Tahini, however, is made from pureed sesame seeds.

Can I make this tahini sauce recipe in a blender?

Yes, you can use a blender or even food processor to blend the ingredients into a smooth sauce.

How long can I keep tahini dressing?

Keep the dressing in an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator for up to a week or so. Give it a good shake or stir before drizzling the sauce onto your dishes or using it as a dip.
