Ingredients You Need

  • Lime Zest –ย Bursting with the tang from the lime zest, they are perfectly balanced in flavor. I include it in the sauce, and also like to use add on a bit more as a garnish to serve.
  • Honey The honey gives the wings their gorgeous caramelized color and balances out the tang from the lime zest.
  • Chili Powder, Garlic Powder, and Salt – To offset the tang and sweetness, these seasonings complete the flavor profile of these chicken legs.

How to Bake Chili Lime Wings in the Oven

  1. Preheat the oven and line a large rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Meanwhile, place the chicken wings in a large bowl. Combine the honey, oil, chili powder, salt, garlic powder, and lime zest in a small bowl. Pour the chili lime sauce over the chicken, then toss and massage the wings until each piece until completely coated.

Pro Tip: The key to remarkable chicken is to massage the flavor into the wings prior to baking. Give the wings the same kind of attention you expect out of a good back rub.

  1. Place the coated wings on the prepared baking sheets, making sure the pieces donโ€™t touch. If they touch or are too close together the wings won’t get nice and crispy.
  2. Bake the chicken for 15 minutes. Use tongs to flip the wings and bake another 15 minutes. Then rotate one last time and bake another 5-10 minutes until crispy and dark.

Pro Tip: Flipping the wings a couple of times ensures the honey-coated chicken doesn’t burn on one side or stick to the bottom. Keep a close eye on them during the 3rd round of baking!

Frequently Asked Questions

Are chili lime wings spicy?

No, the chili powder is smoky and fragrant but not spicy. But if you want them to be spicy you can add a pinch of cayenne pepper and/or crushed red pepper flakes to the sauce!

Are chicken wings gluten-free?

Yes, the saucy baked wings are gluten-free. They also happen to be paleo, too!

Can I make chili lime sauce wings on the grill?

Yes, you can! Check out our no-fail method for how to grill chicken wings and use the chili lime sauce as a glaze. The wings need to be cooked naked without any sauce, because the honey will burn on the grill.

How long do leftover wings last?

Store leftover wings in an airtight container and keep them in the fridge for up to 3-4 days.
